About the event
Dr. Warren Ertle is an award-winning composer, bandleader, and ragtime/stride pianist based in Tuscaloosa, AL. He is the winner of the 2022 New Rag Contest and a two-time regular division finalist at the World Championship Old-Time Piano Playing Contest & Festival. Considered an expert on the music of the Ragtime Era and American Jazz Age, Ertle performs regularly as a soloist, in the duo Yellow Cocktail Music with vocalist Jamie Shannon, and is the bandleader of authentic 1920s-1930s jazz band, Dr. Warren Ertle’s Corpse Revivers.
Ertle holds degrees in composition from Boston Conservatory at Berklee and The University of Alabama and his music has been performed nationally and internationally by The Shoals Symphony, The Mississippi Symphony String Quartet, Delta State University Wind Ensemble, Hinds Community College Wind Ensemble, Boston Conservatory Chorale, percussionist, Jason Baker, The 41st Army Band, and more.
When Ertle is not performing solo or on the bandstand, he remains an active sideman and has performed with Category VI Jazz Combo, The 215th Army Band, The 41st Army Band, John Clark, Kimberly Hawkey, Dan Gabel, Arnt Arntzen, Vince Giordano of the Grammy-Winning Vince Giordano & The Nighthawks (Boardwalk Empire, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Killers of the Flower Moon) and more. Ertle is a board member of the American Big Band Preservation Society, Inc.
